History of Board Games

Wooden Games history

On his 21st birthday Prince GaMes the son of the Duke WooDen Toys received a bag of Ducats (coin of the Realm) and a trusty steed Chess Nut. With a bag of money and his trusty steed he started his world tour looking for adventure and things the Wood Workers Guild 001 could create for the people of his fathers Dukedom, first stop Pharoland.

In Pharoland he quickly learned the concept of moving wooden blocks around on variegated wooden game boards. He sketched this wooden board game for future use back home. This became known as the board game Checkers.

GaMes was a good card player, especially Cribbage which he taught to many of the people of Pharoland. When the hot summer arrived in Pharoland GaMes started the long trip through Uropa on his trusty steed Chess Nut.

When the prince arrived in Uropa he saw court jokers playing pegs. This time GaMes was able to liberate (steal) a working set of the pegs wooden game board. Today we know this game as Pegs and Jokers.

After several years of travel GaMes and his trusty steed Chess Nut returned home to Wooden.  There was a big celebration and GaMes showed his father and the members of Wood Workers Guild 001 the sketches of the board games he had played with and the set of pegs game, which the wood workers called Pegs and Jokers.

Duke WooDen Toys and the Wood Workers Guild 001 took GaMes sketches of the board games and the working pegs and created wooden games for all the people of the Dukedom to enjoy on family game night. Some of the wooden games were modified to be kids board games which many called educational board games because they helped the children in the Dukedom learn to count.

Board games were first introduced over 4000 years ago on wood painted to meet the games specification, such as chess, and checkers, because cardboard had not yet been invented. Hope this whimsical story has given you a smile. Shop at Mufstuf wooden toy store for board games made in USA.
